Keith’s Trains Series™ (from the camera of Keith Lehman, a RR Series from 1-West Productions™), Title #114 DURANGO & SILVERTON NARROW GAUGE 2010 VOL. 1: See the Durango ticket office, gift shop. Take a tour of the museum, yards, shops, turntable, tracks, and equipment. In the shops we see the D&DNG 486 and 478, both K Class 2-8-2’s, and parts and machinery. In the museum we see Rio Grande Southern C17 2-8-0. Passenger cars, cabooses, inside & out, 476 K28 2-8-2, with a cab tour, model RR, signs, RR lock cabinets, and RR art. At Rockwood, CO we see the GE Diesel 1 hotshot, yards, and equipment, the 481, and a train pass going southbound.
At Hermosa, CO we see the old water tank, bridge, and the #481 and train come around a curve, and out from behind the bridge railing, then pass Southbound again. We then pace the 481 and train along Route 550 for about 15 minutes, as the Fireman shovels coal into the firebox, and the 481 blows for road crossings. Back at Durango, the 481 arrives and the engineer gets down and talks with passengers, then runs around the circular track, and does switching before cutting away and disappearing from view. A GE diesel also does some switching. On Oct. 12 we arrive at Durango for a train ride from Durango to 478.8 (see #115 Vol. II) part of the trip we have both the 481 and 482 double-headed on our train of 15 cars. The scenery is spectacular. The rest of the trip is on #115, Vol II. 10/2010
